IPL 2021: Moeen Ali Asks CSK to Remove Alcohol Brand Logo From His Jersey; Franchise Agrees
Moeen Ali asked the Chennai Super Kings management to remove the alcohol brand logo from his jersey and the franchise agreed to the England all-rounder's request.
England all-rounder Moeen Ali is set to play for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ahead of the tournament, English all-rounder made a special request to the franchise.
Moeen Ali has requested the Chennai Super Kings management to remove a certain sponsor logo from his jersey due to his faith’s ban on alcohol.
Moeen is a practicing Muslim and his faith forbids him from consuming or even promoting alcohol. He doesn’t support Alcohol brands or their logos on any of his jerseys, be it for England or any other domestic side he plays for around the world.
Talking about the CSK jersey, the Men in Yellow has the logo of SNJ 10000, which is a surrogate product brand of Chennai-based SNJ Distilleries. CSK, meanwhile, has also agreed to Moeen Ali’s request and are ready to remove the logo of the alcohol brand from his jersey according to India Today.
Chennai Super Kings spent Rs. 7 crore on Moeen Ali at IPL 2021 in February. This is Moeen’s second IPL franchise after Royal Challengers Bangalore, with whom he played for 3 seasons since 2018.
Moeen Ali Excited to Play Under MS Dhoni’s Captaincy
The English all-rounder has played total of 19 matches so far in which he accumulated 309 runs and picked 10 wickets. Earlier this month, Moeen expressed his excitement at playing under former India captain MS Dhoni at CSK this season.
“I’ve spoken to players who have played under MS and they tell me how he improves their game. I believe a great captain does that. I think it’s something on every player’s wish list to play under MS. I think it’s the confidence and the clarity he gives people. It’s exciting,” he said according to CSK’s official website.
Three-time champions Chennai Super Kings will be opening their IPL 2021 campaign against Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals on April 10 at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
