Team India U19 captain Uday Saharan was involved in a heated on-field altercation with Bangladesh pacer Ariful Islam during the clash between the two teams at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein in the ongoing ICC U-19 World Cup 2024 on Saturday, January 20.
Saharan led from the front, having smashed 64 runs from 94 balls. Teaming up with opener Adarsh Singh, they orchestrated an outstanding 116-run partnership, with Singh top-scoring for India with a brilliant knock of 76 runs.
Tensions arose during Saharan’s partnership with Adarsh Singh. Following the second ball of the 25th over, Saharan exchanged words with Ariful, prompting umpire Donovan Koch to intervene and defuse the situation.
The exchange’s root cause was unclear, yet replays hinted at Ariful’s words when Saharan was going for a second run in the previous ball. Upon returning to the crease, Saharan exchanged words with the Bangladesh spinner, prompting Ariful to respond before umpire intervention.
