Shubman Gill Breaks Multiple ODI Records With Historic 223* Against West Indies
Shubman Gill smashed 223* against West Indies in Guwahati, breaking multiple ODI records including the fastest double century.
Shubman Gill produced one of the greatest ODI innings in cricket history, smashing an unbeaten 223 off 133 balls against the West Indies in Guwahati.
Gill reached his double century in only 117 balls, breaking Ishan Kishan’s record for the fastest ODI double century. Kishan had reached 200 in 126 balls.
The India captain also became the highest individual scorer in an ODI run chase. His 223* went past Glenn Maxwell’s unbeaten 201, set during Australia’s chase against Afghanistan.
Gill’s innings also gave him the highest individual score in a successful List A run chase. He moved past Soumya Sarkar’s previous record of 208*.
Shubman Gill Becomes First Captain to Score Double Centuries in Both Tests and ODIs
Gill broke Virender Sehwag’s record for the highest individual score by an ODI captain. Sehwag had scored 219 against the West Indies in 2011.
The right-hander also became the fastest Indian captain to score an ODI century. He reached his hundred in just 62 balls, edging past Rohit Sharma’s previous mark of 63 balls.
With this innings, Gill joined Rohit Sharma as only the second batter to score more than one double century in men’s ODI cricket.
His 223* also moved him to third on the list of the highest individual scores in ODI history. Only Rohit Sharma’s 264 and Martin Guptill’s unbeaten 237 remain ahead of Gill.
Gill’s innings was built around clean hitting and strong running between the wickets as India mounted a record chase of 406 against the West Indies.
