The schedule for the first 15 days of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 was unveiled on February 23rd. The tournament opener will be played between the defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22 at MA Chidambaram Stadium., Chennai.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has only revealed the schedule for the opening 21 matches due to non-cricketing reasons. In 2024, India’s General Elections will coincide with the IPL dates. The Election Commission is expected to announce the polling dates nationwide in mid-March.
Second Phase of IPL 2024 to Move Out of India
Meanwhile, reports are circulating that the franchise has taken custody of IPL players’ passports, fueling speculation about shifting the rest of the season to another country due to the concurrent general elections. However, the BCCI plans to await the dates of elections before finalizing the remainder of the IPL schedule.
However, as of now, nothing has been officially confirmed; there are only reports of franchises collecting passwords, with no official confirmation regarding the potential relocation of the second half of IPL 2024 to another country.
Which Country Will Host the Second Phase of IPL 2024?
However, if the tournament requires relocation from India, South Africa and the UAE emerge as top contenders to host the lucrative league. Meanwhile, in recent years, the England and Wales Cricket Board has also expressed interest in hosting the IPL in their country.
