Before heading into the next match, let’s have a look at the records broken:
1. MS Dhoni 1st Player to Feature in 200 T20 Matches For Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni added yet another feather to his cap on Friday as took the field for the 200th time in T20s for his franchise in Match 8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
Dhoni is the first player to feature in 200 matches for 3-time champions CSK, which also includes the 24 games he led them in the Champions League T20. Dhoni is already the most-capped player in the IPL with this being his 206th match. He featured in 30 matches for the Rising Pune Supergiant when CSK were serving their two-year ban from the IPL in 2016 and 2017.
Under Dhoni, CSK has won a total of five titles (CLT20: 2010 and 2014, IPL: 2010, 2011, 2018).
2. Deepak Chahar Registers His Best Bowling Figures in The IPL
Chahar (4/13 in four overs) looked unplayable on Friday as he deceived the batsmen not just with movement but also with variations.
The right-arm pacer from Rajasthan bowled Mayank Agarwal with a ball that moved away a bit and hit the stumps.
He then dismissed Gayle (10) with the knuckleball as the Jamaican batsman scooped it to cover as Jadeja took a catch diving full length.
Soon, Chahar got rid of Nicholas Pooran (0), who pulled a short delivery straight to deep square leg, and Deepak Hooda, who chipped one that was moving away to the mid-off fielder. CSK skipper MS Dhoni ensured that Chahar was bowled through in one spell.
3. Ravindra Jadeja Affected Most Run Outs in IPL History
The 32-year-old ran out Punjab Kings opener and skipper KL Rahul in the eighth match of this season’s IPL. And in doing so, Jadeja effected a run-out for the 22nd time, the most by any player in IPL history.
He also took two catches on the night, those of ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle and Shahrukh Khan
