Zaka Ashraf, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, suggests that the outcome of the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 group stage clash could have been in Pakistan’s favour if not for the rain delay.
Notably, the group-stage encounter between India and Pakistan during Asia Cup 2023 was abandoned due to persistent rain, with Pakistan’s chase never getting underway after India’s innings.
Here’s what Zaka Ashraf told Geo News:
“We were on the verge of winning against India in Kandy, India had almost lost the match but it started raining and unfortunately there was no result. We lost our five players because of fatigue/injury and then we got eliminated from the Asia Cup.”
Later in the Super Four stage, India outclassed Pakistan, winning by an emphatic 228 runs in a one-sided affair. The Indian batters were unstoppable, scoring a mammoth 356 runs, with KL Rahul and Virat Kohli both registering centuries.
In reply, Pakistan had no answer to India’s bowling as they bundled out for mere 128 runs in 32 overs. Later, Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka as well and got eliminated from the continental tournament.
The arch-rivals India and Pakistan are set to lock horns against each other on October 14 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023.
