Kieron Pollard withdraws from Joburg Super Kings for SA20 2027 after taking charge as Mumbai Indians head coach for IPL 2027.

Kieron Pollard has withdrawn from his upcoming stint with Joburg Super Kings ahead of the SA20 2027 season. The Caribbean all-rounder was signed for R1.5 million at the mini-auction earlier this month.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed Pollard’s unavailability, saying, “He has conveyed to us that he will not be able to play for Joburg Super Kings.”

Pollard’s withdrawal comes after he took charge as the head coach of Mumbai Indians for IPL 2027, replacing Mahela Jayawardene. Reports suggest his new coaching role could be a key reason behind the decision, although the franchise has not officially confirmed the reason.

Pollard’s Coaching Commitments

The SA20 2027 season is scheduled to run from January 17 to February 21, while IPL 2027 is expected to take place between March and April. Although the two tournaments do not clash directly, Mumbai Indians are expected to begin their preparations in early January.

This could require Pollard to focus on his coaching duties well before the IPL season begins. However, his exact reason for withdrawing from the SA20 tournament has not been officially confirmed by Joburg Super Kings.

Pollard has previous experience in the SA20, having represented MI Cape Town in the 2023 and 2025 seasons. He scored 207 runs and picked up four wickets across 12 matches during those campaigns.

MI Cape Town did not sign Pollard at the recent auction, choosing to bring Shimron Hetmyer into their squad instead. Joburg Super Kings had secured Pollard for R1.5 million, but his withdrawal now leaves the franchise facing a change in its plans.

Losing an experienced T20 player like Pollard is a setback for Joburg Super Kings ahead of the new season. The franchise will need to consider its options as it prepares for SA20 2027.
