Mayank Agarwal-led Punjab Kings got the better of the Royal Challengers Bangalore by five wickets in the third game of IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on March 27.
Punjab Kings won the toss and opted to bowl first. Royal Challengers Bangalore, batting first posted a mammoth total of 205 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. RCB’s new skipper Faf du Plessis left a good first impression as he smashed a quick 88 runs off just 57 deliveries.
He was involved in a 118-run second-wicket partnership with Kohli, who scored 41 runs from 29. A cameo knock of 14-ball 32 from Dinesh Karthik in the end helped RCB post 205/2 at the end of 20 overs.
Punjab Kings, in reply, chased down the score with 6 balls remaining. They got off to a brilliant start as their new skipper Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan added 71 runs for the opening stand. Agarwal scored 32 runs off 24 balls while Shikhar Dhawan scored a quickfire 29-ball 43.
Bhanuka Rajapakha also contributed well with the bat as he smashed 22-ball 43. Liam Livingstone also showed his power hitting abilities before he was dismissed by Akash Deep. Shahrukh Khan (24 off 20) and Odean Smith (25 off 8) finally helped Punjab Kings cross the finishing line with an over to spare.

Former RCB captain, Virat Kohli, on Sunday smashed 41 runs off 29 balls against Punjab Kings and became the fifth highest run scorer against the Mohali based franchise. Kohli now has 782 runs against PBKS at an average of 31.28. He surpassed Robin Uthappa in the tally, who has 758 runs against Punjab Kings.
Shikhar Dhawan Becomes Sixth Highest Run Scorer Against RCB
Following his 29-ball 43 runs knock, Shikhar Dhawan has now become the sixth highest run getter against RCB. He now has 658 runs against RCB. The former DC opener surpassed Gautam Gambhir in the tally who had 647 runs against Bangalore.
