The 11th match of the 13th season of the Indian Premier League was played between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Abu Dhabi. Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bowl first. After an invitation to batting first, Sunrisers scored 162 runs for four wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. In response, Delhi Capitals managed to score only 147 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. Hyderabad opened their account in the tournament by winning the match by 15 runs.
Bairstow, Williamson Lead Sunrisers to 162 Runs
Opener Johnny Bairstow scored his second half-century in the tournament which helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to score 162 for four wickets. Bairstow scored 53 runs in 48 balls with the help of two fours and a six. He shared a 57-ball 77-run partnership with captain David Warner while a 38-ball 52-run partnership with Kane Williamson.
Williamson’s 41 off 26 Balls
Playing his very first match of the tournament, Kane Williamson scored 41 runs in 26 balls with the help of five fours. Warner scored 45 runs in 33 balls. Abdul Samad of Jammu and Kashmir, playing his first match in IPL, scored 12 runs in seven balls.
Warner and Bairstow handled the balls of Ishant Sharma, Kagiso Rabada and Enrique Nortje very carefully. However, Rabada took two wickets for 21 runs.
Delhi Only Scored 147 Runs
Chasing a target of 163 runs, Delhi Capitals could score only 147 runs for seven wickets. Delhi’s wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Shikhar Dhawan contributed the highest 34 runs while wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant scored 28 runs. Shimron Hetmyer scored 21 and Kagiso Rabada scored 15 not out.
For Hyderabad, spinner Rashid Khan took three wickets for 14 runs while Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets. Khalil Ahmed and T Natarajan got 1-1 wickets.
Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan Hunted by Rashid Khan
After the first wicket of Prithvi Shaw, the Delhi team’s innings was brought some momentum by captain Shreyas Iyer and opener Shikhar Dhawan innings. Spinner Rashid hunted Shreyas in his very first over (8th of the innings) and was caught by Abdul Samad. Iyer scored 17 runs off 21 balls with the help of 2 fours. He added 40 runs for the second wicket with Dhawan. Then Ravid sent Dhawan back to the pavilion. Although DRS was taken by Dhawan but Dhawan had to return. Dhawan scored 34 runs off 31 balls with the help of 4 fours.
Early Return of Prithvi Shaw
Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw was hunted down by Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the very first over of the innings and was caught by Johnny Bairstow behind the wicket off the 5th ball of first over.
The journey of Both the Teams So Far in IPL 2020
Sunrisers Hyderabad was defeated by Royal Challengers Bangalore by 10 runs in their first match of IPL-13, while in the second match, they had to lose by 7 wickets against Kolkata Knight Riders. At the same time, Delhi defeated Kings XI Punjab in the super over, in their second match, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s team Chennai Super Kings was defeated by DC’s youngsters.
