The second qualifier match of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League was played between Delhi Capitals (DC) and David Warner-led SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi in which Delhi Capitals and Co won the match by 17 runs.
Earlier in the match, Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, DC posted 189 runs for 3 in the allotted 20 overs, thanks to Shikhar Dhawan’s blistering 78-run knock.
SunRisers Hyderabad couldn’t reach the target and was able to score only 172 for 8 and lost the match by 17 runs.
With this win, we have got our another finalist i.e., Delhi Capitals. Now Shreyas Iyer and boys will take on the defending champions Mumbai Indians in the final contest on November 10. This final game of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League will be played on Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.
Winning Skipper, Shreyas Iyer’s Reaction:
“Amazing. This is the best feeling ever. This has been a rollercoaster. A lot of ups and downs. We have stuck together like a family. A lot of responsibility comes as a captain, and on top of that, you have to maintain consistency as a batsman. But I feel I have been getting a lot of support from my coaches and the owners. Really fortunate to have such an amazing team. Emotions keep going high and low. You can’t have the same set of routines. You have to keep chopping and changing. In the next game too, we have to play freely and maintain our temperament. We were happy with the total. We were going at 10 an over, but Rashid can be lethal so we decided to play him out. We were lacking in our opening partnership, and we needed that rocket start. We thought if Stoinis plays the maximum deliveries, he could give us a push.”
Losing Skipper, David Warner’s Reaction:
“First and foremost, no one gave us a chance at the start. Everyone talked of the big three: Mumbai, DC and RCB. So I am really proud of our campaign. Natarajan, Rashid, Manish Pandey have been the positives. That back half in the tournament is how we like to play our cricket. You can’t win tournaments if you keep dropping catches and missing chances. I think with the ball and the bat we improved after doing badly but our attitude in the field let us down. Yes, there were injuries but you have to work with what you have got. I am proud to get where we are today as no one gave us a chance.”
Player of the Match, Marcus Stoinis’ Reaction:
“Have done it in the BBL for a couple of seasons (opening the batting) so it was nice to get an opportunity. Never know what it’s going to be like early. There was swing early on. So had a bit of a look at it before having a crack. Have played quite a bit of IPL, but this is my first final. It’s been hard with quarantine but a bit of silverware is good motivation. MI are a very good team. Have played consistently. But they’re due an off game. Our best cricket should be good enough to win. Was a really nice wicket. My thought process was to change my grips and see what I was getting out of the wicket and change my tactics with wide yorkers and slower balls.”
