India vs Sri Lanka 2024

India and Sri Lanka first faced each other in international cricket on September 17, 1978. The match was an ODI (One Day International) held at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

They have played each other multiple times since, but one of the most significant was the 2011 World Cup final, where MS Dhoni led India to victory against Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium to secure the World Cup.

Sri Lanka turned the tables on India, defeating MS Dhoni’s team by six wickets in the 2014 T20 World Cup in Bangladesh to lift the trophy.

India will be touring Sri Lanka once again this year for a three-match T20I series and an equal number of ODI matches, set to be played from July 27, 2024.

This will be India’s first white-ball bilateral trip to Sri Lanka since 2021. During that tour, Rahul Dravid served as the stand-in coach with Shikhar Dhawan leading a second-string side.

This will be the first series for Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav, having already led India previously, will be heading into the series as the permanent captain of the T20I Indian cricket team, taking over from Rohit Sharma, who retired from T20Is along with Virat Kohli after the T20 World Cup 2024 win.

This multi-format series will offer a valuable opportunity for emerging talents like Shubman Gill, Riyan Parag, Rinku Singh, and Harshit Rana to showcase their skills and contribute to the legacy of the Indian cricket team.
