Tilak Varma, India’s young batting prodigy, stamped his authority on the international stage, announcing his arrival with back-to-back sixes in his T20I debut for India.
Tilak wasted no time and unleashed a massive six against Alzarri Joseph on the second ball he faced, and repeated the same feat with another maximum on the next ball.
Varma stepped up to the crease when India found themselves reeling at 28/2, having lost Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill early in the run-chase of the 150 at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium.
Tilak’s confidence shone through his innings as he notched up 39 runs from 22 balls, the highest individual score by an Indian batter in the game. Suryakumar Yadav was the only other player to go beyond the 20-run mark as India fell short by just four runs in the series opener.
