IND vs SL 2026: Dhruv Jurel’s ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisaan’ Tribute Steals the Spotlight After Century
Dhruv Jurel scored 115* and paid tribute to his father with a Jai Jawan, Jai Kisaan tattoo after his century.
Dhruv Jurel hit his second Test century on Day 2 of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo, but his celebration carried a special message.
The India wicketkeeper-batter remained unbeaten on 115 off 177 balls as India declared at 503/9 at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground.
After reaching his hundred, Jurel revealed a tattoo on his arm that read “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisaan”. The gesture was a tribute to his country and his father, Nem Chand.
Nem Chand is a 1999 Kargil War veteran and retired Indian Army Havildar. Jurel has often spoken about his father’s service and the influence it has had on his life.
The century also placed Jurel in an elite group of Indian batters. He became only the ninth Indian to score an overseas Test hundred while batting at No. 7.
Jurel is also just the second Indian to achieve the feat in Sri Lanka. Hardik Pandya was the first, when he scored a century at No. 7 during India’s 2017 tour.
His knock came at an important stage for India after Sri Lanka had put pressure on the middle order. Jurel stayed calm and helped India push the total beyond the 500-run mark.
Devdutt Padikkal led the way with a superb 117, while Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant also scored half-centuries. Jurel then provided the finishing touch with his unbeaten century.
India declared on 503/9 and continued their strong position in the two-match series. India had won the first Test in Galle by 165 runs and now lead the series 1-0.
Jurel’s century was impressive on its own, but his “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisaan” celebration added an emotional touch to a memorable day for the young batter.
