The Sri Lanka spinner, Maheesh Theekshana, repaid the faith Sharjah Warriors put in him by taking a four-wicket haul in the first match he played for the team in the ongoing ILT20 against the Gulf Giants on January 19.
While already an exceptional spinner for Sri Lanka, Theekshana’s fame soared when he became part of the Chennai Super Kings under MS Dhoni in the Indian Premier League, consistently delivering stellar performances.
Having been brought on board for a modest IND 70 lakh ahead to the 2022 IPL season, Theekshana has accumulated 23 wickets for the team led by MS Dhoni. He played a huge part in CSK’s successful IPL campaign in the 2023 season.
Chennai Super Kings Have Played a Big Role in My Career: Maheesh Theekshana
Now a familiar face in franchise cricket, Theekshana attributes his success as an incredible bowler to the Chennai Super Kings. He sheds light on his journey with the Johannesburg Super Kings, the sister franchise of CSK. Here’s what the Sri Lankan off-spinner said:
“Chennai Super Kings has played a big role in my career. And it is not only restricted to the IPL. I played for their Johannesburg franchise (Johannesburg Super Kings) in the SA20.”
On playing with the Sharjah Warriors in ILT20, Theekshana said that he’s loving the yellow jersey that he is donning in the tournament, in context with the CSK jersey colour.
“It is always a great feeling to play for Chennai Super Kings, with the loyalty they show and the confidence they give. Now that I am playing for Sharjah Warriors, I am very happy that I am getting to play in yellow again – the colour of CSK.”
Theekshana expanded on his experience playing under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, emphasizing that Dhoni is an exceptional leader who supports his players and understands their strengths.
“Dhoni gives you the confidence you need as a player. He has one hundred per cent trust in the players he selects. He tells us to play to our strengths and backs every player.”
