The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Tuesday, September 5 announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming World Cup 2023, which is slated to happen in India later this year.
While the composition of the Indian team didn’t spring any surprises, Tom Moody, the former Australian cricketer, opined that Suryakumar Yadav’s spot on the World Cup team was a fortunate one.
Interestingly, Suryakumar Yadav, currently ranked as the top T20I batter, has struggled to make an impact in the ODI format despite numerous opportunities. He has been deployed in various positions within the Indian playing XI, but his performances have fallen short of expectations.
Across his 26 appearances in ODIs for India, Suryakumar Yadav has notched up 511 runs at an average of 24.33. Analysing these figures, it’s understandable why Tom Moody believes that Suryakumar Yadav’s inclusion in Team India’s World Cup squad might be seen as a stroke of luck.
