Rohit Sharma, on Thursday opened the innings for team India alongside KL Rahul. After throwing his wicket in the 30s in the previous Test, he had a lot to prove as a Test opener in the ongoing Test.
Sharma, who has no century in foreign conditions in the longest format of the game, was looking all set to make it big on the first day of the Lord’s Test. However, it didn’t go as expected as the 34-year old was dismissed by Anderson in the 44th over. The England pacer successfully found the gap between Rohit’s pad and bat and trapped him by his inswinger.
Rohit Sharma played a gem of knock, having smashed 83 runs off 145 deliveries with the SR of 57.24 with the help of 11 fours and 1 six. Also, here it is worth mentioning that Rohit Sharma now has an average of 40.50 as a Test opener in SENA countries.
This is the second highest average by an Indian opener after Rahul Dravid (minimum of 5 Tests) in SENA since the start of the 21st century. It was also his highest individual score in any away Test.
Meanwhile, the Cricket fraternity is busy showering praise on the 34-year old for his impressive batting skills and a brilliant knock. We have picked a few of their reactions for you. Have a look:
