Dhoni looked confident with the dismissal as the stumping appeal was referred to the third umpire, who further provided the confirmation that Gill had failed to ground his bat within the crease.

Meanwhile, Jadeja delivered a flat off-stump ball. Gill leaned forward to drive it straight on the ground, but the ball sharply spun, narrowly evading the edge of his bat and his back foot unintentionally slipped out of the crease, when Dhoni finished up his glove work behind the stumps.

Gill, who scored a sensational century in the last match against Mumbai Indians was dismissed for 39 runs off 20 deliveries, comprising 7 boundaries. With this, he finished the season as the highest run-getter of IPL 2023 with 890 runs from 17 matches at a strike rate of 158.
