[Watch] Bangladesh Fans Express Frustration by Beating Themselves with Shoes After Shocking Loss to Netherlands in World Cup Clash
Netherlands defeated Bangladesh by 87 runs in World Cup 2023 clash, fans expressed their frustration after disappointed performance
Bangladesh suffered a humiliating 87-run defeat to the Netherlands on Saturday, October 28th at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, extending their losing streak to five matches in the 2023 ODI World Cup, and jeopardizing their chances of advancing to the semifinals.
Although Bangladesh’s bowlers performed admirably, limiting the Netherlands to a mere 229 runs in their allotted 50 overs, their batting unit crumbled under pressure, leading to a disastrous collapse as they were bowled out for 142 runs in 42.2 overs.
The highest run-scorer for Bangladesh was Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who managed 35 runs from 40 balls. This disheartening loss didn’t sit well with the passionate Bangladesh fans who had travelled to Kolkata to support their team.
A few fans took their frustration to the extreme, resorting to the unusual act of beating themselves with shoes. Their rationale was that since they couldn’t physically confront the Bangladesh players with shoes, they were symbolically punishing themselves after witnessing the team’s disappointing loss to the Netherlands.

“We don’t mind losing to big teams but how can you lose to Netherlands? Shakib, Mushfiqur and all should be sl*** shoes. On behalf, I am slapping myself.”
Bangladesh is currently at the bottom of the points table, and their chances of reaching the semi-finals are almost non-existent. They are scheduled to face Pakistan in their next match on October 31 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
