IPL 2022: Shikhar Dhawan Becomes First Indian To Smash 1000 Fours In T20s

Shikhar Dhawan became the 5th overall batter to get to the landmark.

Shikhar Dhawan scripted history on Friday as he become the first Indian batter to hit 1,000 boundaries in T20 cricket. The left-handed batter became only the 5th batter overall in world cricket to achieve this feat.

Dhawan achieved the landmark when he smashed the Titans’ pacer, Lockie Ferguson, for a four in the 5th over of Punjab’s innings on Friday at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Among Indians, Virat Kohli is next in the tally with 917 boundaries while Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina are in 3rd and fourth spot with 875 and 779 fours respectively.

The 36-year old took 307 T20 matches to reach the mark. He needed three fours to reach the feat ahead of Punjab Kings’ game against Gujarat Titans and he smashed four of them in Friday’s game to script history. He was trapped by Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan for 35 off 30 in the 11th over of the match.

As far as Dhawan’s numbers are concerned in the shortest format, the 36-year old has amassed more than 8867 runs in T20 cricket at an average of 32.47 and strike rate of 125.
