WPL 2026: UP Warriorz Stun Defending Champions Mumbai Indians with 22-Run Win
UP Warriorz beat Mumbai Indians by 22 runs as Meg Lanning stars with 70 to seal a league double in WPL 2026.
The UP Warriorz beat the defending champions Mumbai Indians Women by 22 runs in their WPL 2026 match on Saturday, January 17.
Put in to bat, UP Warriorz put up a strong total of 187 for 8. The innings was built around a classy knock from captain Meg Lanning, who scored 70 off 45 balls and later won the Player of the Match award.
Lanning found perfect support in Phoebe Litchfield, and the duo added 119 runs for the second wicket. Litchfield played freely and made 61 off 37 balls, keeping the pressure on the Mumbai bowlers.
Mumbai’s problems were made worse by poor fielding. They dropped at least five catches, allowing UP Warriorz to push the score higher in the final overs and finish with a total that always looked tough to chase.
Mumbai Indians tried a new opening pair once again, sending out Hayley Matthews with Sajeevan Sajana. It was their fourth opening combination of the season, and it failed as the team lost five wickets for just 69 runs.
A fightback came through Amelia Kerr and Amanjot Kaur. The pair added 83 runs for the sixth wicket and briefly brought Mumbai back into the game with positive strokeplay.
Kerr stayed unbeaten on 49 off 28 balls, but the asking rate kept climbing. The turning point came when Shikha Pandey broke the Kerr-Amanjot stand, finishing with figures of 2 for 30.
UP Warriorz stayed calm in the closing overs and closed out a comfortable win. This was their second win in a row and a rare league double over Mumbai Indians in WPL 2026.
