WPL 2026: Harmanpreet Kaur Leads Stunning Record Chase as Mumbai Indians Stun Gujarat Giants
Harmanpreet Kaur’s unbeaten 71 powers Mumbai Indians to a record WPL chase and a seven-wicket win over Gujarat Giants.
Harmanpreet Kaur led Mumbai Indians Women to a memorable seven-wicket win over Gujarat Giants in the WPL 2026, completing their highest successful run chase in Women’s Premier League history.
Mumbai Indians Women won the toss and chose to bowl, but Gujarat Giants made full use of their batting depth to post a strong 192 for five in 20 overs. It was a total that put early pressure on the chasing side.
Georgia Wareham anchored the innings with an unbeaten 43 off 33 balls, while Bharti Fulmali played a fearless knock of 36 off just 15 balls. Kanika Ahuja added further momentum with a brisk 35 off 18, pushing Gujarat close to the 200 mark.
Mumbai Indians had a shaky start in reply. Openers G Kamalini and Hayley Matthews were dismissed early, leaving the side at 37 for two inside the powerplay and staring at a difficult climb.
That was when captain Harmanpreet Kaur walked in at number four and took control of the chase. She began cautiously, focusing on singles and partnerships rather than big shots.
Harmanpreet found solid support from Amanjot Kaur, and the pair stitched together a crucial 72-run stand for the third wicket. Amanjot played with confidence and intent, scoring 40 off 26 balls before falling at a key moment.
After Amanjot’s dismissal, Harmanpreet shifted gears. She was joined by Nicola Carey, and the duo made sure Mumbai never lost the tempo again. Their unbeaten 84-run partnership turned the match firmly in MI’s favour.
Carey struck a rapid 38 not out off 23 balls, finding boundaries at regular intervals. Harmanpreet played the anchor role to perfection, finishing unbeaten on 71 off 43 balls with calm authority.
Gujarat Giants were left to rue their sloppy fielding effort. Harmanpreet was dropped more than once, and those missed chances proved expensive in a tight chase of this scale.
The Mumbai captain brought up her tenth WPL fifty during the innings and also became the first Indian batter to cross 1,000 runs in WPL history, underlining her impact in the league.
Harmanpreet sealed the result in style, hitting the winning boundary with four balls to spare. The win also extended Mumbai Indians Women’s flawless record against Gujarat Giants Women to 8-0 in WPL history.
