“Would Beat His Own Baby”: Ex-Cricketer Defends Virat Kohli’s Musheer Khan Sledge
Atul Wassan defended Virat Kohli’s ‘paani pilata hai’ remark on Musheer Khan, calling it harmless competitive banter.
Virat Kohli has received support from former India pacer Atul Wassan after his cheeky remark on young Punjab Kings batter Musheer Khan sparked controversy during the IPL 2025 Qualifier.
Kohli’s Comment Caught on Stump Mic
During the Qualifier 1 between RCB and Punjab Kings, Kohli was caught on the stump mic saying “yeh toh paani pilaata hai” as Musheer Khan walked out to bat. The comment quickly went viral, with many fans debating whether the statement was unnecessary or simply a part of Kohli’s typical on-field banter.
Atul Wassan Defends Kohli’s Competitive Nature
Speaking on the Bails and Banter show, Atul Wassan defended Kohli, saying the RCB star simply loves to compete. “Virat has a competitive nature; even if he plays with his own baby, he would like to win,” said Wassan. He added that sledging is a normal part of the game as long as it stays within limits.
He further stated, “If someone is doing it within the line, it’s fine. Sledging is a mix of wit, sarcasm and sometimes being a bit obnoxious. But it should not cross the line.”
Kohli Gifted Bat to Musheer Earlier This Season
Despite the viral comment, Kohli has shown warmth toward Musheer Khan in the past. After an earlier RCB vs PBKS clash in the same season, the senior batter had gifted one of his bats to the young left-hander.
Kohli Focused on Final as Orange Cap Contender
Virat Kohli, who is among the top scorers of IPL 2025, will now play in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With 614 runs in 14 innings at an average of 55.81, he remains a strong contender for the Orange Cap this season.
