Women’s T20 Challenge 2020 – SNO vs VEL Highlights & Analysis: Velocity Defeated Supernovas by 5 Wickets For The First Time in The Tournament

SNO vs VEL: In the Women’s T20 Challenge i.e. Women’s IPL, Velocity defeated Supernovas by 5 wickets. Mithali Raj-led Velocity defeated Harmanpreet’s Supernovas for the first time in the league. Earlier, 2 matches were played between the two in the tournament in which Velocity lost all of them. This is Velocity’s first win over Supernovas.

In the match played in Sharjah, Supernovas lost the toss and gave a target of 127 runs while batting first. In response, Velocity won the match scoring 129 runs losing 5 wickets in 19.5 overs. Sune Luus scored the most unbeaten 37 runs for Velocity. Apart from her, Sushma Verma scored 34 and Veda Krishnamurthy scored 29 runs.

Velocity Won Despite Poor Start

Velocity failed to start well in the match. The team lost both their openers for 17 runs. Danni Wyatt and Shafali Verma were dismissed by Ayabonga Khaka. Wyatt scored zero whereas Shefali could only score 17 runs off 11 deliveries. Captain Mithali Raj also could not do much for the team and was dismissed for 7 runs off 19 deliveries. She was dismissed by Shashikala Siriwardene.

After this, Veda Krishnamurthy and Sushma Verma made a 27-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Veda was dismissed for 29 runs. She was dismissed by Radha Yadav. In the end, Sushma Verma and Sune Luus let Velocity win the match. Both made a 51 runs partnership for the 5th wicket. Sushma Verma dismissed by Poonam Yadav for an individual score of 34 runs off 33 deliveries.

Brilliant Batting of Supernova’s Skipper Harmanpreet

Supernovas scored 126 runs for 8 wickets. For the team, opener Chamari Athapaththu scored the highest 44 off 39 deliveries and captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 31 off 27 balls. At the same time, Ekta Bisht took the most 3 wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs. Apart from her Jahanara Alam and Leigh Kasperek got 2-2 wickets.

Supernovas Didn’t Convert Good Start Into Big Score

Supernovas got off to a good start with opener Athapaththu (44 runs) and Priya Punia (11 runs) made 30 runs partnership for 1st wicket. Despite this, the team could not grab the opportunity and couldn’t convert this into a big score. Jahanara took the two crucial wickets. She dismissed Harmanpreet and Chamari Athapaththu.

Leigh Kasperek sent 2 players back to the pavilion. Priya Punia and Pooja Vastrakar were dismissed by Veda Krishnamurthy. Ekta took 3 wickets in the match. Radha Yadav (2) and Shakera Salmon (5) were dismissed in the last over.
