Kieron Pollard Joins Joburg Super Kings, Ends Long MI Franchise Association
Kieron Pollard joins Joburg Super Kings for R1.5 million, ending his long association with Mumbai Indians-linked franchises.
Kieron Pollard has made a major switch in his franchise cricket career after being picked by Joburg Super Kings for R1.5 million in the SA20 player auction.
Pollard has spent most of his franchise career with teams linked to Mumbai Indians. He played for MI in the IPL and later represented MI Emirates, MI New York and MI Cape Town.
His move to Joburg Super Kings is notable because it takes him to a franchise from the same group as Chennai Super Kings, one of Mumbai Indians‘ biggest rivals in the IPL.
Pollard’s SA20 Journey
Pollard previously played two seasons for MI Cape Town in the SA20. His first season in the competition came in 2023-24, when he scored at an average of 37.40 across nine innings and also took four wickets.
His most recent SA20 season in 2025-26 was less productive. Pollard played two matches, scoring 20 runs and failing to take a wicket.
The experienced all-rounder will now bring his leadership and big-match experience to Joburg Super Kings. He joins a squad that includes James Vince, Jason Holder, Rilee Rossouw, Akeal Hosein and Donovan Ferreira.
The move also adds an interesting chapter to Pollard’s career, given his long association with Mumbai Indians. He spent more than a decade with the IPL franchise and became one of its most successful players before moving into coaching and mentoring roles.
Joburg Super Kings will hope Pollard can provide experience and power in the middle order as they prepare for the next SA20 season.
