West Indies Pacer Shamar Joseph Named in Alleged Rape Case While Playing First Test vs Australia
West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph faces serious sexual misconduct allegations, including rape, as multiple women come forward, investigation underway amid ongoing Test series

West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph has been accused of serious sexual misconduct, as reported by Kaieteur News. The allegations have surfaced at a time when the West Indies are playing Australia in a Test series in Barbados.
According to the report, a woman from Berbice has accused Joseph of rape, while other women, including one teenager, have also come forward with allegations of inappropriate behaviour.
Allegations Date Back to 2023
As per the victim’s family, the incident reportedly took place on March 3, 2023, in New Amsterdam, Berbice. The woman was 18 years old at the time. She had trusted Joseph and informed her mother she was going out with him.
She was taken to a house where other men were also present. Later, Joseph allegedly took her upstairs, where the assault is said to have occurred.
The victim’s mother shared that her daughter was comfortable initially because there were other people around. But after going upstairs with him, everything changed.
Victim Hospitalised, Interview Left Incomplete
The report says that the woman became mentally distressed while giving her statement to the police and was unable to complete the interview. She has since been hospitalised due to emotional trauma.
It has also been mentioned that repeated questioning by various officers added to her stress. As of now, she remains under medical supervision.
Not The Only Allegation
The report further states that other women have also spoken up, with some accusing Joseph of sexual assault and inappropriate conduct. This includes a teenager. So far, no official charges have been confirmed.
Joseph Still Playing Amid Investigation
Despite the serious nature of these claims, Joseph is currently playing in the first Test against Australia in Barbados. He picked up four wickets in the first innings and one in the second.
There has been no public response from the West Indies Cricket Board yet. It remains to be seen if the board will investigate the matter or take any disciplinary action.
