Watch Video: Fan Breaches Security, Runs Towards Pitch to Meet Virat Kohli on Day 1 of Pink Ball Test

A fan breached the security and made it into the ground, ran towards the pitch towards Virat Kohli on day one of the third Test match in Ahmedabad.

A fan at Motera breached the security at the venue of the third Test match between India and England. During the final session of the day, a fan ran down the ground towards the pitch when Virat Kohli was batting in order to meet the Indian captain. However, knowing about the constraints amid Covid-19, Virat Kohli stepped away.

The Indian skipper spotted him from far away and he immediately took a few steps back, asking the fan to return. The fan realized his mistake soon and turned back. He was escorted by officials and the game was halted for 1 minute.

At that very moment, the crowd at Motera started cheering as a smiling Kohli had reminded his fan of the bio-bubble restrictions.

A top police official posted at the venue said that the fan won’t be easily let off. “We will register a case against him at the police station at Chandkheda (which is just about five kilometres) from the stadium,” said the official without revealing the offence the fan will be tried for, as that was under discussion.

Although the stands have been barricaded by fence, the man found an inlet from where the Man of the Series car is parked.

As long as the match is concerned, it is majorly in favour of India after the end of Day 1. Rohit Sharma held the fort going into the night before Indian spinners won the first two sessions of the day. Visitors were bowled out for a meagre total of 112 as England’s poor form with the bat continued. However, later the Indian captain (27) was dismissed by Jack Leach in the final over of day one’s play as India stayed at 99/3 at stumps with Rohit Sharma (57) and Ajinkya Rahane (1) unbeaten.
