Virat Kohli to Play in India’s Only Warm-Up Match Against Bangladesh for T20 World Cup 2024
Virat Kohli is likely to reach USA on time and hence he will play the warm-up match against Bangladesh.
Star Indian batter Virat Kohli will miss the initial part of the team’s stay in New York for the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, reports suggest he will be there in time for the team’s only warm-up match against Bangladesh on June 1st.
The ex-Indian captain reportedly requested permission from the BCCI for a short break before joining the squad. He is expected to fly towards the end of May.
“He will definitely be in New York before the warm-up match,” a source close to the team revealed. “The team management will decide on his participation in the warm-up game depending on how much time he gets after landing.”
Indian Players to Reach USA Already
Meanwhile, the Indian contingent arrived in New York in two batches. Captain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and other key players like Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant arrived on Sunday. The second batch, including Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson and Yuzvendra Chahal, is expected to join soon.
Head coach Rahul Dravid and the entire support staff also arrived with the first batch. Hardik Pandya, who was vacationing after his IPL team Mumbai Indians’ exit, is expected to fly directly from London to New York.
The Indian team is staying at a luxury hotel near the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, which will host their warm-up match and three group stage encounters against Ireland, Pakistan, and USA.
The remaining group stage match versus Canada will be played in Florida. The Super Eight stage, along with the semi-finals and finals, will be held in the West Indies.
