Virat Kohli Finally Breaks Silence After Unfortunate RCB Stampede Tragedy

Nearly three months after celebrations in Bengaluru turned deadly, Virat Kohli has spoken publicly for the first time about the stampede that claimed 11 lives during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s victory event at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4.

In an emotional note shared through the franchise on Wednesday, Kohli said the tragedy changed what should have been a historic moment for RCB.

“Nothing in life really prepares you for a heartbreak like June 4th,” he wrote, adding that he has been constantly thinking of the families who lost loved ones and the injured fans.

Kohli described the loss as now being part of the team’s journey. “Your loss is part of our story now. Together, we will move forward with care, respect and responsibility,” he said.

RCB also announced steps under their newly launched foundation, RCB Cares, which has become central to the team’s response.

Each bereaved family will receive ₹25 lakh in compensation. But beyond financial support, the initiative is focused on long-term safety measures and honoring the fans.

According to the franchise, the plan includes annual crowd-safety training for staff, fan-safety audits, and independent research into public safety at sporting events.

RCB also intends to create permanent stadium jobs to support local communities and preserve the memory of the fans who died by making them part of the club’s history.

The franchise said it will work with the IPL and Karnataka State Cricket Association to put these measures in place, though government approval is still required.

Kohli, who has been the face of RCB for over a decade, called the tragedy a reminder of the responsibility teams carry towards their supporters.

“Together, we will move forward,” he wrote, “with care, respect, and responsibility.”
