Venkatesh Iyer Joins RCB for ₹7 Crore at IPL 2026 Auction

Venkatesh Iyer was sold to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for ₹7 crore at the IPL 2026 mini-auction in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16. RCB moved quickly and decisively to secure the Indian all-rounder.

The left-handed batter had entered the auction with a base price of ₹2 crore after being released by Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the season. His name drew attention early, given his past impact and Indian all-rounder value.

RCB and KKR were locked in a bidding battle for Iyer, with both teams keen to bring him into their plans. The contest ended when KKR pulled out at ₹7 crore, allowing RCB to raise the paddle last.

Iyer was one of only two Indian players placed in the highest base price bracket of ₹2 crore for this mini-auction. That alone underlined the demand for him, despite a quiet previous season.

The 2025 IPL did not go as planned for Iyer at KKR. He scored just 142 runs in 11 matches and struggled to find consistency, which eventually led to his release before the auction.

Even so, RCB clearly believe Iyer has more to offer, especially with his ability to bat in the top order and contribute with the ball when needed. Indian all-rounders remain a rare and valuable asset in the league.

For RCB, the signing adds depth to their Indian core and offers flexibility in team balance. Iyer’s left-handed batting could also help break opposition match-ups in the middle overs.

The move also marks a fresh start for Iyer, who will be eager to prove his worth after a difficult year. A change of franchise could give him the confidence and clarity he needs going into IPL 2026.
