Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Smashes Fastest-Ever List A Fifty in Stunning India A Knock
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed a 50 in 11 balls and scored 94 off 29, setting a new List A cricket world record.
Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his remarkable rise by breaking the record for the fastest fifty in List A cricket during India A’s match against Sri Lanka A. The young batter raced to his half-century in just 11 balls, setting a new world record in the 50-over format.
Sooryavanshi eventually blasted 94 runs from only 29 deliveries in a breathtaking innings. He struck 10 fours and 8 sixes, leaving Sri Lanka A bowlers with no answers. Remarkably, he faced only one dot ball before reaching his fifty.
The previous List A record belonged to former Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera, who had reached the milestone in 13 balls in 2021. Sooryavanshi’s effort now stands alone at the top of the record books.
While it is the fastest fifty in List A cricket, the record for the quickest fifty in international ODI cricket remains 16 balls. That mark is jointly held by AB de Villiers and Matthew Forde.
Sooryavanshi’s latest performance comes during a dream run for the teenage sensation. He was the leading run-scorer in this season’s IPL and has quickly established himself as one of India’s most exciting young batting talents.
Despite his record-breaking form, selectors have chosen a cautious approach with his development. He was not included in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against England. Instead, he has been picked in India’s T20 squads for the tours of Ireland and England.
The decision suggests the team management wants to ease him into international cricket through the shortest format before considering him for ODI duties. If selected in the playing XI, Sooryavanshi could make his international debut as early as next month.
India’s ODI squad for England features the return of Jasprit Bumrah, while Virat Kohli could also be available if he clears a fitness test. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Hardik Pandya have not been included in the squad.
For now, though, the spotlight belongs firmly to Sooryavanshi. At just 15 years old, he has already rewritten a major record and strengthened the belief that Indian cricket may have discovered its next batting superstar.
