Updates ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Points Table After India 3-1 Defeat in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25

Australia to face South Africa in WTC Final 2025 after a commanding 3-1 Border-Gavaskar Trophy win over India

Australia will face South Africa in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final in June 2025 after securing their place with a commanding 3-1 series victory over India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. Australia’s six-wicket win in the fifth and final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground confirmed their top-two finish in the WTC standings.

South Africa had already booked their spot in the final after defeating Pakistan in the Boxing Day Test. With a win percentage of 63.73, Australia’s place in the summit clash is now unassailable, even with their upcoming series in Sri Lanka.

India’s Qualification Hopes End

India entered the Border-Gavaskar series needing a 3-1 victory to secure a spot in the WTC final. However, the hosts fell short, managing only a solitary win in the series. Their defeat dropped their win percentage to 50%, ending their chances of qualifying. This marks India’s first series loss to Australia since the 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The result reflects Australia’s dominance and consistency throughout the WTC cycle. Led by standout performances from their pace attack and key contributions from seasoned batters, they successfully defended the prestigious trophy and now aim to retain the WTC title.
