Rishabh Pant reveal his conversation with Rohit Sharma which significantly helps of the massive win at the Gabba
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant delved into the emotions tied to the historic Test win in Brisbane against Australia in 2021.
Pant went on to reveal his conversation with Rohit Sharma that brought to light the team’s understanding of the significance of the massive win at the Gabba.
Reflecting on the 3rd anniversary of the heroic win, Rishabh Pant revealed that hitting the winning runs in India’s record chase of 328 didn’t bring the same excitement for him as it did for the rest of the team.
Instead, he stated that it was about proving a point to himself after being initially left out of the first Test in that unforgettable series.
Here’s what Rishabh Pant told Star Sports:
“I remember what Rohit Sharma said. A lot of people told me special things, but Rohit’s words, I remember it well. He was seeing my reaction. Everybody was happy, but he was not seeing me as excited as everyone else.”
“He told me ‘I don’t think you realise what you have done’. I told him ‘yeah, we won a match, we won a series here for the 2nd time’.
“He told me ‘when you quit cricket, you will understand the importance of this innings because you don’t know what you have done. Then I realised what I had done.”
Pant was not initially part of the squad during India’s defeat in Adelaide but made a game-changing entry, replacing Wriddhiman Saha for the second Test. His contributions were crucial in India’s bold draw in Sydney and the historic win at the Gabba.
