Thisara Perera Announces Retirement From International Cricket
A powerful hitter of the white-ball, Thisara Perera was an all-rounder and had been a vital cog in the Sri Lankan cricket team.
One of the finest Sri Lankan all-rounder, Thisara Perera, on Monday announced his retirement from international cricket. The white-ball specialist announced his decision to the Sri Lankan selectors ahead of a meeting scheduled on Thursday.
While Sri Lanka are all set to play ODI series against England and Bangladesh, Perera has decided to hang his boots.
As reported by newscenter.lk, the Sri Lankan selectors were in the favour of giving chances to young Sri Lankan players for the upcoming series by leaving out some senior players, Perera being one of them.
Perera, who made his international debut back in 2009, featured for the country in the recently-concluded T20I series versus West Indies, but it is believed that the all-rounder chose to retire after being informed by the selectors that he was no longer in their plans.
“The All-rounder’s decision comes after it was recently reported that SLC selectors are considering dropping several senior cricketers, including Perera from the Sri Lanka ODI side,” newswire.lk reported
“A senior SLC official told NewsWire that selectors are unlikely to consider senior players Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Suranga Lakmal and Thisara Perera for the upcoming limited overs tours.”
Thisara Perera Cricket Career
As long as his cricketing career is concerned, the hard hitting all-rounder, Perera was part of 6 Tests with the national team where he accumulated 203 runs and picked up 11 wickets for his team. He donned the Sri Lanka jersey in 166 ODIs while smashing 2338 runs and picking 175 wickets to his name.
Coming to his T20I career, the all-rounder picked 51 wickets while producing 1204 runs. He played a good amount of T20 cricket. The all-rounder also ended up representing multiple franchises in the IPL, including Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. Perera was a part of the Sri Lankan squad that beat India to lift the World T20 title in 2014.
The tall all-rounder of Lanka played his last Test match against Pakistan in the year 2012 but kept on being an active member of Sri Lanka’s limited-overs squad.
