‘They Mocked My Son, Said RCB Wasted Money on Him’ – Yash Dayal’s Father
Yash Dayal is the hero for RCB, having successfully defended the target against CSK.
The final over of the IPL 2024 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was a nail-biter. With CSK needing 17 runs to qualify for the playoffs, all eyes were on young pacer Yash Dayal, entrusted by RCB to defend the target.
Adding to the pressure, Yash’s father, Chandarpal, revealed he initially panicked after MS Dhoni smashed a six off the first ball.
“I blamed myself for ruining another match for my son. Dhoni can still tear apart any bowler,” Chandarpal told The Indian Express.
“I just folded my hands and started praying. ‘Aaj mere bachhe ka saath dena bhagwaan, fir se wo nahi hona chahiye’(God, please support my son today. It should not happen again)”
However, Yash’s story takes a turn for the inspirational. He held his nerve, dismissing Dhoni with the very next delivery. Chandarpal, relieved and proud, described the moment:
“It felt good the way he held his nerve after the first ball. I enjoyed the winning moment.”
This redemption for Yash comes after a challenging season last year. Playing for Gujarat Titans, he was mercilessly trolled after being hit for five consecutive sixes by Kolkata Knight Riders’ Rinku Singh.
“The story of Prayagraj Express got over before it even began,” Chandarpal recalled a particularly hurtful meme mocking his son in a WhatsApp group.
Even when RCB bought Yash for a hefty Rs 5 crore at the auction, Chandarpal remembers facing criticism: “Someone said ‘The franchise threw the money in the drain’.”
Yash Dayal’s resilience in the face of immense pressure and online negativity makes his victory even sweeter. From being trolled to becoming a hero, Yash Dayal’s story is a testament to the mental strength required for success in the high-stakes world of cricket.
