T20 World Cup 2024: Rahul Dravid Hints at Playing Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal in Afghanistan Match
Both Yuzvendra, Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have not featured in the group stage for team India in T20 World Cup 2024.
Ahead of India’s crucial T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 fixture against Afghanistan in Bridgetown, Barbados on June 20, head coach Rahul Dravid hinted at a potential overhaul in the bowling setup.
The outgoing head coach pointed out the different playing environments in the West Indies versus the USA and proposed that either Kuldeep Yadav or Yuzvendra Chahal might play a pivotal role at Kensington Oval.
Interestingly, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, the spin specialists, did not feature in the group stage matches held in the USA, where the conditions supported the fast bowlers.
Here’s what Dravid said in the pre-match press conference in Bridgetown:
“It’s tough to leave anyone out,” Rahul Dravid said. “New York had conditions favorable to pace bowlers, slightly different. We might need something different here in Barbados. Yuzvendra Chahal or Kuldeep Yadav could be used here. We are fortunate to have players with all-round abilities. We had eight batters, and we also had seven bowling options.”
While Kuldeep Yadav has World Cup appearances under his belt for India, Yuzvendra Chahal has yet to grace the World Cup stage. If selected to play against Afghanistan, it would mark a significant moment for the skilled spinner.
