Suryakumar Yadav to Miss IPL 2024 to Get Fit for T20 World Cup 2024? Here’s a Huge Update on Mumbai Indians’ Batter
There is uncertainty over Suryakumar Yadav’s availability in IPL 2024.
Mumbai Indians‘ hitter Suryakumar Yadav is in a tight battle to make the squad for the first two IPL 2024 matches against the Gujarat Titans and the Sunrisers Hyderabad, slated for March 24 and March 27 respectively.
Suryakumar Yadav On A Road To Recovery
It’s been reported that Suryakumar is currently receiving treatment for his ankle injury sustained during India’s tour of South Africa late last year at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Despite his social media updates on strength and conditioning workouts, it’s still unclear whether he has resumed batting.
“Surya’s rehabilitation is on track and he will certainly ‘Return to Play’ in the IPL itself,” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity. “However it is still not clear whether the NCA’s Sports Science and Medical Team will give clearance to play in the first two away games against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad.”
“There are still 12 days to go before MI play their first game but it could be a race against time to get fit by the first match itself,” the source added.
Managing Suryakumar’s Workload Ahead of 2024 T20 World Cup
Following a four-day hiatus between Mumbai’s second and third matches, the Rajasthan Royals are scheduled to play at the Wankhede on April 1. Managing Suryakumar’s workload becomes imperative for MI, as India’s upcoming tour to the West Indies and the USA for the 2024 T20 World Cup awaits, where he holds pivotal importance.
