Shreyas Iyer to Play Final Ranji Game for Mumbai After BCCI’s Warning
Earlier Shreyas Iyer was dropped from Indian Test team due to poor form.
Just a few days after the BCCI gave a warning to centrally-contracted players about putting IPL over domestic cricket, Shreyas Iyer seems to have recovered from back spasms and is set to lead the charge for Mumbai in the Ranji semi-final against Tamil Nadu.
Iyer was omitted from India’s lineup for the final three Tests against England led by Ben Stokes in February. By giving debuts to domestic talents Sarfaraz Khan, Rajat Patidar, and Akash Deep, India not only assessed its bench depth but also secured an unbeatable 3-1 lead over England in the five-match series under Rohit Sharma‘s captaincy.
Shreyas Iyer Dropped From Indian Team
Iyer, who was struggling for form, played as India’s second senior batter in the first two matches of the England Test series. He posted scores of 35 and 13 in the 1st Test at Hyderabad and contributed 27 and 29 in the 2nd Test against Stokes and his teammates in Visakhapatnam. Despite facing persistent back issues, the star batsman remained eligible for selection leading up to the 3rd Test.
Shreyas Iyer Ready To Play Ranji Trophy
Now Iyer is getting ready to take the field for Mumbai in the semi-final duel of the Ranji Trophy. The semi-final match between Tamil Nadu and Mumbai will take place at Mumbai Cricket Association’s BKC ground on Saturday. According to The Times of India, Iyer has confirmed his availability for selection.
“Yes, Iyer has confirmed to the Mumbai Cricket Association that he is fit now and available for Mumbai’s Ranji semi-final match,” a source was quoted as saying.
