Shreyas Iyer Out of ICU, Condition Stable Following Spleen Injury
Shreyas Iyer suffers spleen injury during Sydney ODI vs Australia, remains under medical care as recovery continues.
Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has been hospitalised in Sydney after suffering a spleen injury while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on October 25.
Iyer was injured while attempting a catch at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The ball struck his left lower rib cage, and he was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation.
Scans confirmed a laceration to his spleen, which caused internal bleeding. He was admitted to the ICU as a precaution but has since been moved out. Doctors say his condition is stable, though he remains under close observation.
The BCCI released a statement saying, “Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status.”
The Indian Team Doctor has stayed back in Sydney to monitor Iyer’s recovery and coordinate with local medical experts. His family is expected to join him soon after completing visa formalities.
Although his condition is improving, there is no official timeline for his return to cricket. The selectors had recently been considering Iyer only for ODIs, and his next possible assignment could be the three-match ODI series against South Africa starting November 30. However, his participation will depend entirely on medical clearance.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Indian squad has moved on to Canberra for the T20I series against Australia, with the team management prioritizing Iyer’s full recovery before any discussions of a comeback.
