Sanju Samson Has Potential To Be Future of Indian Cricket: Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh said Sanju Samson has the potential but he needs to learn from his mistakes and seal the opportunity to secure his future.
Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh feels that Sanju Samson can mark his presence in the Indian cricket if he learns from his mistake and grab the opportunities in the Indian jersey.
Sanju Samson’s initial IPL performance had impressed all the cricket fraternity and fans. After witnessing his form in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League, the selectors picked him in India’s T20I Squad for the tour of Australia. It was considered a great opportunity that Samson had to grab with both hands to salvage his international future.
However, he somewhere failed to make the impact with his bat in the T20I series against Australia. The 26-year-old wicket-keeper batsman managed to scored only 48 runs in three matches.
“Sanju has got the opportunity to bat at No.4. He is still on his first or second tour, he will learn. We know that he has got the potential and India won the series,” Harbhajan Singh told India Today.
“These guys will be the future of Indian cricket. You know if they will not mistakes, they will not learn. I am sure Sanju Samson with the quality he has, is gonna learn and get better from here.”
“If he will not learn obviously someone else will come and take that slot. Because no.4 is a very important slot. If you have got the opportunity, you have to seal it. If not on this tour but next tour, you have to come better prepared and make sure you make it count,” Harbhajan added.
As far as the T20I series is concerned, India has won the series 2-1 against the hosts. Sanju Samson was featured in all the three matches against Australia and could score only 48 runs. Samson made his debut in 2015 and since then he has played only 7 T20Is. And for all his talent and potential, it will be interesting to see if India’s selectors will remain patient with him in a T20 World Cup year.
