SA vs IND: Dale Steyn Blames Rain for India’s Defeat Against South Africa in 2nd T20I
South Africa beat India by six wickets in a rain-interrupted game.
Former South African pacer Dale Steyn suggests that India found themselves on the wrong end of conditions when rain disrupted the 2nd T20I against South Africa on December 12 in Port Elizabeth. The home team hammered the visitors by six wickets (DLS method).
Putting to bat first, India posted a total of 180 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 19.3 overs before rain halted play. Later, South Africa was assigned a DLS-adjusted target of 152 runs to chase down within 15 overs.
The Reeza Hendricks masterclass paved the way for South Africa’s triumph, with his quickfire 49 runs off 27 balls creating a solid foundation for the team to chase down the target in just 13.5 overs.
Here’s what Dale Steyn told Star Sports:
“India were on the wrong side of the conditions. It wasn’t possible to hold the ball and as a bowler you can’t do much about it. The ground was wet and the dew made batting easy during South Africa’s case. India did a good job while batting as they put a big total on the board. But it wasn’t their day.”
Earlier in the match, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh scored half-centuries each to take India to the respectable total before rain interrupted the game.
