Gaikwad now holds the highest career batting average ever recorded in List A history for players with at least 50 innings. His average stands at 58.83, which puts him ahead of some of the finest batters to play the format.

This new mark moves him past Australian great Michael Bevan, who held the record with an average of 57.86. Gaikwad has also gone ahead of England batter Sam Hain, who averages 57.76.

The timing of the record has caught attention, as it came soon after Gaikwad was left out of India’s main ODI squad. Instead of slowing down, the 28-year-old has responded with numbers that underline his consistency.

The milestone came during a domestic match for Maharashtra against Goa in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Gaikwad played a calm and controlled knock, remaining unbeaten on 134 off 131 balls.

His innings included 14 fours and two sixes, and he paced his effort well to guide Maharashtra to a strong total. The knock proved vital as Maharashtra went on to win the group-stage match.

Along with the batting average record, Gaikwad also set another global benchmark in the same innings. He became the fastest player in professional List A cricket to reach 20 centuries.

He achieved the feat in just his 95th innings, which is quicker than any other cricketer in List A history. The record highlights not just his ability to score big runs, but also how often he converts starts into hundreds.

Gaikwad’s List A numbers now place him among the most reliable batters in the format. His performances at the domestic level continue to send a strong message to the national selectors.
