IPL 2024: Ruturaj Gaikwad Makes History as First CSK Captain to Score IPL Century
Ruturaj Gaikwad is the first CSK captain to score a century in IPL history.
Chennai Super Kings’ new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad made history by becoming the first captain from the franchise to score a century in the Indian Premier League.
Gaikwad achieved this remarkable milestone during CSK‘s match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday, April 23.
Gaikwad kept his cool and built his innings against the Super Giants. While others were struggling, he played like a true captain. He reached his century in just 56 balls, smashing a four-over cover in the 18th over.
From the get-go, he led the charge for his team, especially when the other batters were having a hard time. Gaikwad ended the innings unbeaten at 108 from 60 balls, with 12 fours and three sixes lighting up his innings.
Before Gaikwad, MS Dhoni held the record for the highest score as CSK skipper. Dhoni’s unbeaten 84 in 2019 against RCB was the previous best. Dhoni has predominantly batted in the middle and lower middle order.
