Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Appoint Andy Flower As Head Coach
Flower was the head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants since their inception in the 2021.
Former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower has been appointed as the new head coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) outfit Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Flower is set to replace Mike Hesson as the Director of Cricket Operations and take over from Sanjay Bangar as head coach, both of whom concluded their tenure with the franchise last month.
According to Cricbuzz, the World Cup-winning coach engaged in talks with various IPL teams, including Rajasthan Royals (RR), before finalizing his signing with Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The Twitter handle of RCB unveiled the news, with the caption:
โWe are beyond thrilled to welcome ๐๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐น๐น ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ฎ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฟ and ๐ง๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐ช๐ผ๐ฟ๐น๐ฑ ๐๐๐ฝ winning coach ๐๐ง๐๐ฒ ๐ ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ๐๐ซ as the ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต of RCB Menโs team. ๐คฉ๐
Andyโs experience of coaching IPL & T20 teams around the world, and leading his teams to titles at the PSL, ILT20, The Hundred and Abu Dhabi T10 will help in developing a championship-winning mindset and take RCBโs #PlayBold philosophy forward. ๐คโ
Having previously coached the England national team and acted as a consultant for Australia in Ashes 2023, Flower boasts a wealth of experience guiding T20 teams globally, including successful stints with the St. Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League, Gulf Giants in the ILT20, and the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League.
Flower was the head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) since their inception in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League and led the team to the playoffs in both of their seasons so far. However, LSG recently opted for a change in the support staff, appointing ex-Australian head coach Justin Langer to take over his role.
