Rohit Sharma Targets Mumbai Indians Teammate Over Prioritizing IPL 2024 Above Test Cricket
Rohit Sharma stated that there's no point in selecting players who have no interest in Test cricket.
In a spectacular display of cricket, Rohit Sharma led India to a dominant series win with a nail-biting five-wicket victory over England in the fourth Test on Monday.
Despite a bumpy start in pursuit of 191, the two youngsters, Dhruv Jurel and Shubman Gill turned heroes with their standout performance in Ranchi.
During the post-match presentation in Ranchi, Rohit showered praise on the young players but didn’t hold back in criticising those who lack the hunger for red-ball cricket, without directly naming anyone.
Here’s what Rohit Sharma said in the post-match conference:
“Jinko Test Cricket ki bhook nahi hai, wo dekh k pata chal jata hai. Un sab ko khilane ka kya faida?”
Although Rohit Sharma didn’t mention any names, fans are speculating that his comments were directed towards Ishan Kishan, who reportedly chose to skip Ranji games despite BCCI’s recent request to focus on preparations for the 2024 IPL.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently declared that any player aspiring to play Test cricket for Team India must participate in Ranji cricket. Despite this directive, Ishan Kishan opted out of playing for Ranchi in the recent Ranji match.
Ishan Kishan Preparing For IPL 2024
The Ranchi wicket-keeper batter is currently training with his Mumbai Indians captain, Hardik Pandya, in preparation for the Indian Premier League 2024 season. He recently shared a video of their gym session together.
Tensions seem to be brewing between Ishan Kishan and the Indian management ever since his return to India midway through the South Africa tour, where he opted out of the two-match Test series, forcing KL Rahul to take up wicketkeeping duties.
