Rohit Sharma Breaks Silence on Retirement After Ravi Shastri’s Bold Question
Rohit Sharma hints at continuing in international cricket after Ravi Shastri’s ‘old dogs’ comment following India’s win over Australia in Sydney.
Rohit Sharma has dropped a strong hint that he isn’t thinking about retirement just yet. After guiding India to a thumping win in the final ODI against Australia in Sydney, the Indian skipper responded with a smile when former coach Ravi Shastri teased him and Virat Kohli, saying, “You two old dogs still have a sting in the tail.”
Rohit and Kohli had been under pressure going into the final game after a tough start to the series. While Rohit scored 73 in Adelaide, Kohli had endured back-to-back ducks in the first two matches. But the pair reminded everyone why they’re still the heart of Indian batting.
Chasing 237, they put on an unbeaten 168-run stand, leading India to a nine-wicket victory with more than 11 overs to spare. Rohit remained unbeaten on 121 off 125 balls, smashing 13 fours and 3 sixes, while Kohli finished with a steady 74.
Their partnership not only silenced critics but also lit up the post-match presentation. When Shastri made his “old dogs” comment, both batters were left smiling, and Rohit’s reply was telling.
“Looks like it, yes,” he said when asked if he planned to continue. “We enjoy our cricket. No matter what we’ve achieved, it’s always important to start fresh every time you play. That’s how I see it, and I’m sure Virat does too.”
The Former India captain was named Player of the Series for scoring 202 runs across three games. India won the Sydney ODI but lost the series 1-2 overall. Harshit Rana starred with the ball in the final game, picking up four wickets as Australia were bowled out for 236.
Rohit and Kohli later thanked the Australian fans for their support, hinting this might not be their last tour after all. The “old dogs” still seem hungry for more.
