Removing Virat Kohli as Captain Isn’t The Solution: Virender Sehwag Comes Out In Support Of Under-Fire RCB Skipper Virat Kohli
Former Indian cricketer and legend Virender Sehwag has come in the support of 32-year-old. Sehwag feels that removing Virat Kohli from the captaincy is not a solution. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he said that franchise should think of making improvements in the team and retain Kohli as captain.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) made it to the playoffs for the first time in four years under the captaincy of Virat Kohli but unfortunately, they didn’t make it to the finals. There was a time at the start of the league this season when RCB reached number one in the table, but then there was a time when Virat’s team managed to make it to the top four on the basis of NRR after suffering four consecutive defeats just before the eliminator. And unsurprisingly, RCB fell short against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the knockout match and has become the centre of criticism. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer and legend Virender Sehwag has come in the support of 32-year-old.
Former KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar had also called for the removal of Virat Kohli from the captaincy after RCB was ruled out of the title race. Virat Kohli has been leading this team since 2013 and under his leadership, this team only played the final in 2016 but couldn’t lift the trophy. After this, the team’s performance deteriorated further, but in the year 2020 RCB performed slightly better than the previous three years and qualified for the playoffs but couldn’t make it to the finals.
Management Should Not Think of Changing Their Captain: Virender Sehwag
Sehwag feels that removing Virat Kohli from the captaincy is not a solution. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he said that franchise should think of making improvements in the team and retain Kohli as captain.
“A captain is only as good as his team. When Virat Kohli captains India, he is able to deliver the results. He wins matches – ODIs, T20Is Tests. But when he captains RCB, his team is not able to perform,” Virender Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
“It is very important for the captain to have a good team. So, I believe the management should not try and think of changing their captain and rather think of how they can improve this team. Who all should be added to the team to make sure their performance improves?” he added.
Every Team Has a Settled Batting Order Except RCB: Virender Sehwag
Sehwag, at the same time, feels that unlike all other teams, Royal Challengers Bangalore doesn’t have a settled batting order.
“Every team has a settled batting order but RCB have never had that. It’s only ABD and Virat, who keep shuffling up and down the order. With Padikkal coming to the fore, I reckon RCB need to have one more opener and a good lower-order batsman. These five batsmen should be enough to win them matches. The same way, they’d have to trust their Indian fast bowlers. Everyone gets taken to the cleaners. It’s not as if Rabada, Morris and others haven’t been taken for runs.”
