Rahul Dravid Reveals India’s Opening Pair for T20 World Cup 2024

Rahul Dravid has hinted that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma might open for India in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Team India head coach Rahul Dravid has remained tight-lipped about the team’s opening combination for the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. While acknowledging three options, Dravid emphasized the team’s strategic approach to picking the final duo.

Speaking at a press conference, Dravid stated that Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Virat Kohli are the potential choices for the openers’ role. Rohit and Jaiswal recently partnered in the T20I series against Afghanistan, but many experts advocate for a Rohit-Kohli reunion at the top.

Not Going To Reveal Our Cards Yet: Rahul Dravid

Dravid emphasized keeping their strategy under wraps: “We have got options. We are obviously not going to reveal our cards just yet.” He elaborated on the selection process, stating, “We have got Rohit and Jaiswal, and Virat’s opening in the IPL as well.”

“We have picked the team keeping in mind that we did have three options and we could pick and choose what we wanted depending on the conditions, depending on the kind of combination we go into these games with.”

This calculated approach highlights India’s desire for flexibility based on playing conditions and overall team composition. Dravid concluded by expressing his satisfaction: “We’ll see what it’s like, but it’s nice to have some real quality options at the top of the order.”

Both Rohit and Kohli were recalled to the Indian T20I squad for the Afghanistan series, marking their return since the 2022 World Cup. The cricketing world awaits to see who Dravid will unveil as India’s opening pair as they kick off their World Cup campaign against Ireland on 5th June.
