Rahul Dravid Holds Pitch Responsible for India’s World Cup Loss Against Australia

The final of the World Cup 2023 between India and Australia was played at Narendra Modi stadium, Ahmedabad.

Team India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, has reportedly attributed Team India‘s loss in the final of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 against Australia to the pitch at the Narendra Modi International Stadium.

Dravid said the pitch did not turn as much as the Indian team expected it would have and that was one of the major reasons behind India not being able to deliver their best.

Notably, the pitch for the final of the World Cup was a used one. It was the same strip used for the league match against Pakistan. India had won that match quite comfortably but one of the major factors was the toss.

Pakistan had batted first in the game and struggled to get going in the middle-overs, just like India in the finals. Despite an aggressive start by captain Rohit, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul struggled to pick up the pace during the middle-overs.

The call to go with a used pitch was suggested by the local curator’s suggestion. Although ICC rules don’t demand a new pitch for World Cup knockouts, it’s typically a good idea. Yet, in this World Cup, every knockout match was played on pre-used pitches.
