Rahul Dravid Backs KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant for Wicket-Keeper Spot in T20 World Cup 2024

Indian team management has confirmed the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the T20 World Cup 2024

The T20 World Cup 2024 is just a few months away, and Team India has not lined up any T20I leading up to it. However, thankfully, the Indian Premier League 2024 will give the Indian players a solid warm-up for the big event.

The Indian team management has confirmed the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the T20 World Cup 2024. Alongside them, a few other names are almost locked in for the biannual tournament.

However, the one position they are actively seeking is the wicketkeeper-batter spot. According to Indian head coach Rahul Dravid, contenders like Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant are all vying for this crucial role in the prestigious tournament.

Rishabh Pant, on his final stretch of recovery from a harrowing car accident on New Year’s Eve in 2023, could clinch the spot with a strong comeback performance in the IPL. This parallel scenario holds true for KL Rahul, who recently showcased a stellar return in other formats.

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan, who withdrew from the Test series against South Africa citing mental fatigue and returned to India, is also in contention for the spot. His performance with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL will be the deciding factor.

“We’ve got quite a few keeping options. We saw a couple of guys in this series, whether it is Sanju, or Jitesh. You speak about Rahul, there is Ishan, Rishabh… all of them are in the mix. We just have to see how things pan out in the course of next few months and then we can take a call what’s the best way to go,” Dravid had told press after the third T20I against Afghanistan in Bangalore on January 17.

Rahul Dravid confirmed that the likes of KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan are still in the race of T20 World Cup 2024.
