ODI World Cup 2023: Hashmatullah Shahidi Dedicates Netherlands Victory to Struggling Refugees Facing Pakistan Deportation
Afghanistan beat Netherlands by seven wickets.

Hashmatullah Shahidi, the captain of Afghanistan, dedicated his team’s win over the Netherlands in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup to the “suffering refugees” in his homeland.
Pakistan dropped the hammer on Afghan refugees, giving them until November 1 to return to Afghanistan. So far, about 165,000 out of the 1.7 million refugees have made a break for it since the deportation order.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan got hit by three massive earthquakes in the span of a week, resulting in a tragic death toll of 1,400. Speaking in the post-match conference, here’s what Hashmatullah Shahidi said:
“A message to our country back home. We know that a lot of refugee people are struggling. We are watching the videos and we are sad for them.”
“We are with them in these tough times and I want to dedicate this win to them, who are in pain, and to everyone back home.”
With their fourth victory out of seven matches in the ODI World Cup 2023, Afghanistan has now taken the fifth spot in the points table, replacing Pakistan.
